The TAPING RECORDER January, 2006 News from & about Taping For The Blind, Inc. www.tapingfortheblind.org SUPPORT YOUR TAPING MARATHON TEAM! Coming Sunday, January 15, 2006, is the biggest single sporting event that Houston offers every year--the Chevron Houston Marathon. And our favorite charitable organization (that's Taping, of course!) has a great team of runners that have been training hard and are out to set personal best times this Sunday. Or possibly, just trying to survive. No matter what their goal, we need to support them, and you can do this in several ways: Join the Hoopla Brigade in West University Place in front of West U. City Hall, Auden and University, and holler up a storm. Our little band of noisemakers would welcome your help as we hang out at the marathon halfway mark and yell for all the runners, walkers, and wheelers. We will be set up beside our friends from KUHF, the University of Houston's fine radio station, and they will be broadcasting live coverage from that location. This is one of the top 5 locations to view the marathon according to those in the know. You will need to be there by 7 a.m. as they shut the streets down then, so if you want to join us, you can meet Ginger Gish at Taping at 6:30 a.m. and she'll lead the way. We will have whistles, maracas, compressed-air horns, and lung power, not to mention hot coffee and munchies to keep us powered to yell. The last runner usually passes before 11 a.m., and that turns out to be a very convenient time to celebrate your good work with a brunch somewhere, so join us! The second way to support our team is to donate in their honor. You can make a donation using the Taping website and going to the "Donate" page. The website address is given above; and if you haven't visited our website recently, you need to do that anyway to check out our new look. The other way is another website: http://www.active.com/donations/campaign_public.cfm?key=tapingfortheblind This site will get you to our team page and team member pages, so you can pick and choose, or support the entire team. A third option is to bring in a check supporting a team member or the entire team. These ways of giving to honor a runner all work, so find the one you like and support your favorite(s).
