The TAPING RECORDER June 2006 News from & about Taping For The Blind, Inc. www.tapingfortheblind.org MARVIN AND MAGIC VISIT TAPING We were very pleased to welcome local television icon Marvin Zindler to taping this month. Marvin included his 6-year-old bichon frise dog, "Magic," during his visit. We had invited Marvin to record some station breaks, a spot for our Listener Campaigns, as well as an introduction to his biography, "White Knight in Blue Shades" by Dr. Joseph Agris, which volunteer reader Ted Pfister recently finished recording for broadcast on HTBR. After doing his recording, Marvin was given a tour by Cynthia Franzetti and then we sat in the front room and discussed the work Taping does. Mr. Zindler was very interested and asked many good questions about our services. Magic spent a good share of his time sitting in Marvin's lap as they obviously thought a lot of each other. While Marvin was generally soft-spoken, Jim Martinez said he really cranked it up when he did his standard finish to all his work, "MARVIN ZINDLER, EYEWITNESS NEWS." We were very pleased to have Mr. Zindler visit us, and our sincere thanks to volunteer Dena Marks Sokolow for making this happen. CAN YOU SUBSTITUTE? We are having our usual challenges keeping the schedule going because of summer vacations, so if you have some extra time and can do some substitute work, please let Radio Manager Jim Martinez know. TAPING RECORDER FIVE YEARS OLD It is hard for your editor to believe, but the TAPING RECORDER has been bringing "News from & about Taping For The Blind, Inc." to you for five years. We started in February of 2001 without a name. One of the first orders of business was to do a name-the-newsletter contest which Nate Swardland won with the moniker we currently sport. Thanks to all who have contributed to this effort, and most of all, thanks to our wonderful volunteers who make this duty such a pleasure--it is great fun to brag about our incredible volunteers! LIGHT THE CANDLES Please join us in congratulating the following volunteers celebrating their birthdays in June: 06/01 Scott Burman, Paul Lester; 06/05 Lyn Schmaltz; 06/06 Ulyesse LeGrange; 06/15 Dr. Ed Bradley, Stephen Wood; 06/20 Jill Carter; 06/28 Kenneth Grigsby; and 06/29 Barbara Crawford. If you have a June birthday and do not see your name here, please let any staff member know so we can update our records.
