The TAPING RECORDER December, 2004 News from & about Taping For The Blind, Inc. www.tapingfortheblind.org GREAT PARTY--What a marvelous Holiday Reception we had on Wednesday evening, December 8. We had over 100 people in attendance and great quantities of food and beverages and more food! Our thanks to Ginger Gish for all the work she did making the party a success, as well as her helpers: Lindsey Buchanan, James Campbell, Cullom Connely, Katy Damon, Resa Dunn, Deborah Filip, Tom & Anna McLean, Pat & Paul Pilkington, and Lyn & Les Schmaltz. Thanks also to Beverly Hicks for taste testing! JUST A VOLUNTEER--It was a great pleasure for your reporter to meet and greet many old friends at the party, and also a pleasure to meet some volunteers I had not had the pleasure of meeting. One gentleman introduced himself and said, "I am just a volunteer." I told him that volunteers are what make Taping work and what makes Taping the incredible organization it is, but he just kept saying he was just a volunteer. Somehow this type of humility denigrates the spirit of volunteerism, a spirit that means so much to our organization and so much to so many other organizations that make our city, county, state, and nation so extraordinary. Volunteerism allows so much good work to be accomplished and adds quality to lives that might otherwise be ignored, and doesn't this truly exhibit our love for our fellow man? Just a volunteer--a very ironic statement when one considers what good things volunteers do. HOLIDAY HOURS--We will have holiday hours (7 a.m. to noon) for Friday, December 24, Saturday, December 25, and Sunday, December 26. This will be the same for Friday, December 31, Saturday, January 1, and Sunday, January 2, 2005. We hope this doesn't cause you inconvenience, but if it does please let Radio Manager Jim Martinez know. LIGHT THE CANDLES--We hope the following volunteers celebrating a birthday in December have a wonderful birthday and birth month: 12/03 Avery Bonnee; 12/05 Marie Roberts, Sarah Roush; 12/07 Robert Schuller; 12/10 Bill Kreps, Robert Rice, R.J. "Skip" Williams; 12/15 Doug Miller; 12/16 Pat Shannon; 12/18 Pat Arthur; 12/19 Jennifer Hagin; 12/21 Katherin Demetriou, Lewis Kana; 12/22 John Borrowman, Floy Crutchfield; 12/23 Jeri Herbsleb; 12/28 Bill Canning; 12/29 Betsey Sevy, Susan Watson; 12/30 Donna Wilkins; and 12/31 Claire Ellington. Our usual reminder goes along with this--if you have a December birthday and don't see your name in this list, please let Ginger know. HOLIDAY GREETINGS--We wish you the most wonderful greetings of the season and a very happy new year. The combined efforts of our staff and volunteers make Taping the amazing organization it is and we say "Thank You" to all of you! RLB
