The TAPING RECORDER April 30, 2002 No. 204-01 News from and about Taping For The Blind, Inc. (www.tapingfortheblind.org) RECEPTION NEWS--If you missed the reception honoring our volunteers on April 21, you missed a great time. Good food and good companionship highlighted the afternoon. This event is always fun since it offers opportunity to meet and greet fellow volunteers. Routinely our volunteers go to a booth and do their work, without having the benefit of interchange with other volunteers, so this get-together is always fun. More highlights follow. SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS--We were pleased to have two winners announced for Taping's Special Achievement Award. This is the highest award given by Taping and is for extraordinary volunteer effort. This year's winners are Bob Bartlett and Lynn Johnson. Bob Bartlett has been a listener since 1984 and has been a volunteer since 1994. He has served on the Board of Directors and helped form the Listeners Committee. Last year he was appointed chairman of the Endowment Formation Committee; and once the formation was complete, he was appointed chairman of the Endowment Committee. Bob started and continues to serve as editor for our electronic newsletter. He volunteered to lead a team designing and implementing our website. He has served on many Taping committees including Nominating, Planning, Development, Listeners, Quality Review, and Bylaws. Bob is the first client to receive the Special Achievement Award. Lynn Johnson has been a volunteer since 1991. She has read the first hour of the Houston Chronicle on Saturdays for most of that time. She has served on the Outreach Committee, and served as a special representative to the Listeners Committee when they were first starting Listeners Campaigns. She has been the ULTIMATE cheerleader at our Hoopla booth for the Houston Marathon. Lynn served on the website design team, and thanks to her technical skills and immense talent, we have a wonderful website. Lynn serves as webmaster for the site; and she is looking forward to new challenges for the implementation of our broadcast signal on the Internet. Our congratulations to Bob and Lynn for this special recognition and thanks for their service to Taping. TOP 10 LIST--Mr. Letterman may have his top 10 lists that usually are good for a laugh.
