The TAPING RECORDER January 31, 2002 No. 2-0101 News from and about Taping For The Blind Inc. HAPPY NEW YEAR!--It appears that we survived the holidays once again, and we have just about worn out the first month of the new year, so let's get going with the first edition of the RECORDER for 2002. THANKS--The installation of digital broadcast equipment was successfully completed and our staff is now getting used to the new Audio Vault software as well as the somewhat unnatural bridge between reel and cassette equipment and the new hardware. We have one booth set up with new equipment for digital recording. We want to recognize and thank John Deming, VP of Planning for his outstanding effort in making this project a success. John proved his worth in planning as well as executing the plan, and he swings a mean paintbrush--Mr. Deming, we can't thank you enough for all of your hard work! We also want to recognize Jim Martinez (Radio Manager), Chris Cruz, Justin Blount, and George Holsomback for their contributions to the success of this project--we thank you all so very much! (No doubt there are others who need to be recognized for their help on this project, but once again, your editor finds that he is up against a deadline, so please be gentle and forgiving). NEW DIRECTORS--Our Board of Directors was expanded to 20 members last year, and we have staffed the available positions with some dynamite new directors! Join us in welcoming David Gillmore, Ulyess LeGrange, Ellin Royds, Betti Saunders, Morgan Smith, and Dena Marks Sokolow. Please don't confuse new director Betti Saunders with past president Betty Sanders who continues her board service--their names just sound alike. We had an excellent turnout at the first board meeting of the year, and we are looking forward to a very positive year for Taping. BOOTH UPGRADES--Phase two of our project to convert our facilities to a digital format is underway as we have confirmed funding for 5 booths. We don't have a schedule set for this part yet, but we will keep you updated--keep reading the RECORDER! COMMITTEES--We are in the process of forting the various committees that make Taping go, and here is a brief summary: Sam Bertron (VP Development) and Joe Laughlin will co-chair the Development committee this year; John Deming (VP Planning) will chair the Planning Committee; Dr. Ed Bradley will chair the Listeners Committee; Bob Bartlett will chair the Endowment Committee; Robin Rice will chair the Personnel Committee; Dr. Bill Gordon will chair the Nominating Committee; Leila Reynolds will chair the Bylaws Committee; and David Gillmore will chair the Outreach Committee. If you are interested in serving on a committee, contact the chair or talk to President Chris Kiersted. THE WEB SITE--We are still struggling to get the secret handshake down which will allow us to associate our domain name with our web site. In the meantime, we are sorry that some of our friends with AOL are not able to access the site (apparently due to some sort of internal firewall), but we do encourage you to use the link below and check the site out. We will get the problem solved and report to you when we do.
